ABOUT ALISON
Alison Dougherty (b.1977) is an American painter and curator based in Portland, Oregon. Her paintings are a visual experience forged in a range of energy drawing from her own encounters in life. Her impressions of the world are abstractly layered in large forced brush-strokes and impactful sgraffito style scribbling with intentionally placed marks of color. She throws and splatters thick pigment over softly blended atmospheric backgrounds.
Alison’s intuitive paintings pull the viewer beyond layers of paint into intimate spaces while simultaneously push back leaving feelings of wonder, questions, and contemplations. She creatively makes a statement to the world through her work, beautifully bold, challenging, thought provoking and witty. She is constantly challenging herself with new ideas and concepts while experimenting with an ever evolving color palette.
“I paint to remain in the present, while simultaneously reflecting on the past, which becomes my inspiration for the future.” — A.D

Each Painting is unique. I do not make reproductions of any kind or sell my work as NFT’s. I use acrylic paint to create numerous layers of depth with glazes and opaque saturated pigmented paint, using a variety of tools and methods to create vibrant pieces that evoke an array of emotions, thoughts and conversations. My goal is to give the viewer a visual experience and for collectors to bring a statement piece into their living spaces. My studio space is located in the historical Ford Building in Portland, OR. I show my work by appointment at my studio and inside my mobile art gallery OUTLIER GALLERY while on the road. You can follow my adventures on Instagram and Facebook.
